Betcha didn't know
I am a trivia buff and have not seen trivia in your column in a while - just wondering if you could share some Did You Know's.?
You found my weakness - trivia! I am happy to share a few more. Did You Know. that your fingernails grow four times faster than your toenails and that your index finger grows faster than your pinky? .that your left lung is slightly smaller than your right lung to make room for your heart? .that you shed about 40,000 skin cells per minute? Or about 40 pounds of skin in a lifetime? .that if you have trimethylaminuria, or Fish Odor Syndrome, you literally stink like a fish? .that people that swallow a lot of air pass more gas than people who don't (chew with your mouth closed and you will pass less gas). . that when you sneeze, air rushes through your nose at 100 miles per hour? .that an eyelash lives about 150 days before it falls out? .that about 400 gallons of blood flow through your kidneys in one day? .that a drop of blood contains 250 million cells. .that an average human body contains enough fat to make seven bars of soap? .that children grow faster in the springtime? .that diabetes is the number one cause of kidney failure in the world? .that during your lifetime, you'll eat about 60,000 pounds of foods, that's the weight of six elephants? .that for every pound of fat gained, you add seven miles of new blood vessels? .that if your stomach acid got onto your skin, it would burn a hole in it? .that in order to taste something, our saliva needs to dissolve it (try drying off your tongue and tasting something). .that over 90 percent of diseases are caused or complicated by stress? OK - a final piece of totally useless trivia! Did you know that astronauts cannot burp in space? There is no gravity to separate liquid from gas in their stomach! And now you know a little more useless trivia about the human body!
